★ USF Faculty ★ Disaster Management, Humanitarian Relief, & Homeland Security Specialist ★ Certified in Public Health

My goal is to build community resilience through evidence-informed public health practices designed to engage, inspire, and driving change while facilitating interdisciplinary dialog, developing social capital, and supporting economic development. This is done by linking academia and practice through university-community partnerships allowing me to engage students in courses that integrate high impact practices through service-learning and research.

My experiences in the field span from working in business management and marketing, on public health projects pertaining to international economic development in post-conflict recovery to local disaster planning. These efforts involved looking at grassroots initiatives for development and disaster response, conducting needs assessments, analyzing data and being able to utilize that information to provide consultation on the needs of an organization and program development, and/or determining limitations and identifying innovative solutions for the improvement of current practices.

Current teaching activities are in the USF College of Public Health focusing on disaster management (i.e., preparedness, mitigation, response, recovery), international humanitarian relief, and homeland security. Research interests include examining and evaluating disaster management systems working primarily with vulnerable populations, looking at the importance of community engagement and multidisciplinary collaboration, and examining how the built environment, cultural competencies, and social implications impact at-risk neighborhoods, population movements and resettlement (i.e., evacuation orders, refugees, internally displaced persons, human trafficking).

I follow a Transformational Leadership approach with an emphasis on the concept of innovation and creativity. I believe having the ability to inspire, motivate and create a shared vision is an important approach to being a leader. I am a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual, and truly enjoy being part of a dynamic team.
