“Benchmarking with Emergency Management and Public Health Professionals: Best Practices Established during the COVID-19 Response”

The National Homeland Security Association (NHSA) is looking for panelists from Emergency Management and Public Health agencies to participate in a panel on COVID-19 response best practices. Panelists will engage in an in-depth conversation exploring established best practices, innovative programs, continuity of operations, performance measures, and areas of improvement at the global, federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial level to identify national health security and emergency management strategies designed to strengthen our response to public health threats.

The topics of discussion will include:

  • COVID-19 Response Structures, Coordination, Communication, and Data Management

  • Public Information, Emergency Communications, and Community Engagement   

  • Surveillance and Epidemiology 

  • Testing, Laboratory Operations, and Contact Tracing 

  • Building Healthcare Infrastructure Capacity (space, staff, and resources)

  • Nursing Homes, Long-term Care Facilities, and Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs)

  • Logistics Operations 

  • Fatality Management Operations

  • Emergency Shelter and Hoteling Operations 

  • Emergency Food Operations 

  • Continuity of Operations (COOP) and Government (COG)

  • Equity in the COVID-19 Response 

  • Planning for and Responding to a Second Wave 

  • Vaccination Planning and Operations 

  • Cascading Impacts Planning: Planning for Simultaneous Emergencies and Disasters

  • Recovery Planning and Operations 

To apply to participate please send your name, agency/organization, position, COVID-19 response role, biography, and a 250-word panelist abstract. Your abstract should highlight the key topics of discussion you are interested in covering regarding the COVID-19 response.
